So I tried manually changing the icons in the Registry Editor, still no luck! 'that was much easier in Win 7'įinally, I decided to quit and selected always show icons option to get the custom icons working. I followed the same SevenForums article that you posted above, but after changing the 3, 4 and 5, 6, 162 icons with Resource Hacker I wasn't able to replace the "imageres.dll" even with the Take Ownership command, and the System File Replacer will not change "imageres.dll" even if it says so. I just wanted to let you know that you can get the custom icons for the “live folders” and set folder options to display thumbnails too. So Am I missing something or is there no way to alter these types of folders? Including but not limited to such as the Fonts folder icon, live folders, full folders or folders containing data of one form or another for example:Īny thoughts, help or suggestions would be appreciated, and if this article happens to already exist somewhere I do apologise for cluttering the forum up here as I've not been able to find anything specific so far. But 5, 6 and 162 have not updated at all. Below you can see what I did to the registry:Īs you can see from the registry paths I replaced 3, 4, 5 (back), 6 (front) and 162 (full). This met with the above result after a restart. However the live folders do not update despite editing both the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Icons AND the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Shell Icons Registry locations. Now as I'm fairly average at tinkering I've done what the article said on my 10 machine with some success as shown below: I've been able to change only a few of the default folders. It was a very handy article that got me quite far and the same principles applied to Win10 as it did on 7 Now with the help of SevenForums article How to change default folder icons. I didn't like the default theme or the folder icons. I was somewhat successful with adding Sys.setenv(LANGUAGE="en") in R_HOME\etc - this made all output from the R console English, except for the initial copyright information.I've been tinkering with the look of my whole system recently. Renviron under R_HOME\etc ( R_HOME points to C:/PROGRA~1/R/R-215~1.0) and R also ignores it. My R_ENVIRON and R_ENVIRON_USER variables show up as "" so. Renviron file under C:\Users\\Documents, which is the path returned for the working directory by getwd(), with LANGUAGE=en in it. I am able to use LANGUAGE=en as a command line option for the R console desktop shortcut, but the language is still wrong in Rstudio, which launches the R executable directly and hence ignores the command line arguments in the shortcut. For a variety of reasons, this is undesirable, and I want R to be English. Apparently R somehow found evidence that I speak languages besides English, and stubbornly insists on giving output in the console in my own language.
